A local hiking group is going to be on the trail where “my” tree is, this Saturday. “How do we know which one is yours?” one of them asked.
There are a LOT of beech trees. This one does not have a sign on it saying “AS SEEN IN ‘To See a Tree’!”
In fact it doesn’t even have a sign identifying it as a beech tree. There are four little nails that appear to have held a sign at some point, but no more.
So here’s how you know.
1. This is the view when you are standing at “The Tree” facing upstream (tree not included). On a narrow stretch between the boardwalk and the river.
2. This is the view of “The Tree” from a distance, uphill.
3. And this is the view right at the base of the tree, with The Womb in the middle.
The identifier is “The Womb.” A hole that’s become a window box of sorts, for violets this year. Rebirth of any kind.
